Impact play covers any consensual activity involving striking the body for sensation — hands, paddles, floggers, canes, crops — ranging from playful to intense. It's one of the more approachable entry points into kink precisely because most people already have some intuitive sense of what a light swat feels like.
Safe target areas
Generally safer, fleshier areas include the buttocks, thighs, upper back away from the spine, and palms. Areas to avoid, or approach only with specialized training, include the kidneys, spine, joints, neck, and head.
Start light, build slowly
Warming up with lighter, broader sensation before anything sharper or more localized reduces the risk of bruising and lets the receiving partner's body adjust. Check in — verbally or via safeword — between rounds, especially with a new tool or a new partner.
Reading your partner
Negotiation happens before the scene, but the scene itself is read in real time: changes in breathing, muscle tension, or sound tell you as much as what was agreed beforehand. Non-verbal cues matter as much as spoken limits, especially as intensity builds.
Learn hands-on
Our Impact Play: From Light to Deep workshop covers tool selection, dosing intensity, and target-area safety directly — every workshop we run includes a dedicated safety segment, per our code of conduct.
